Excursions

We had intended to visit Pickering to see the clocks turned back to 1943 for their popular event The Railway at War.

Unfortunately the date has been changed from 10th Oct to the 17th, which clashes with our Ireland event.

Instead we are going to Hull on the 10th Oct. and intend to run the Pickering trip next year.

Hull 10th October 2009

The city's Museum Quarter is a highlight of any visit to the City and is one of the most exciting developments of its kind, linking four of Hull's eight FREE museums. Situated in the heart of the historic Old Town, visitors can experience 235 million years of history by visiting the interactive Streetlife Museum, the Hull and East Riding Museum, Wilberforce House, and the Arctic Corsair.

The remaining collection of FREE museums in the city includes the Hull Maritime Museum, the Ferens Art Gallery, the Hands on History Museum and the Spurn Lightship, moored in the city's delightful marina. The Deep, the world's only submarium is home to over 3,000 fish and 7 species of shark, is also not to be missed.

The fish trail (map available from the tourist office) takes you round the town looking for fishes carved into the pavement, one for each letter of the alphabet, also the docks and the shopping centre, Princes Quay.

This date also coincides with the Hull Fair in the Walton Street area. Children's rides are available in the afternoon.
