London excursion to the Terracotta army and Tutankhamun exhibitions

We were overwhelmed by the response and could have nearly filled two coaches and are sorry that we had to disappoint so many.

Advertised in the last newsletter, this excursion had to be cancelled due to lack of support. Reduced prices for groups can only be had with minimum numbers.

LEEDS RHINOS

BTLRC has purchased TWO season tickets for Leeds Rhino's home games, for the 2008 season. 

These are to be offered to all members who show an interest, and offered for a fee of £5.00. 

This will go towards postage (registered) The "tickets" are in the format of a SMART CARD which you swipe at an electronic turnstile.

THORPE PERROW and FLYING FALCONS - Saturday 12th April

Thorp Perrow Arboretum is one of the finest private collections of trees and shrubs in the country. This 85-acre arboretum is unique to Britain, if not Europe, in that it was the creation of one man, Colonel Sir Leonard Ropner (1895 - 1977) and is now owned and managed by Sir John Ropner.

Situated in the peaceful and unspoilt Yorkshire Dales, not far from the historic town of Bedale, Thorp Perrow is an exciting place to explore offering something for everyone. This tranquil and peaceful haven is home to some of the largest and rarest trees and shrubs in England. A treasure trove of specimen trees and woodland walks. There are tree trails, nature trail and children's trail, a large lake, picnic area and children's play area complete with wild flower area with identification board, bird identification board. The Arboretum also embraces the Milbank Pinetum planted by Lady Augusta Milbank in the mid-nineteenth century, and the medieval Spring Wood dating back to the 16th century The Falcons of Thorp Perrow is the ultimate family day out, incorporating the opportunity to learn more about birds of prey and associated wildlife, with the enjoyment of hands on experience for all the family. Combined with the beautiful and historic Arboretum, a full and spectacular day in the Yorkshire countryside is complete.

The regular flying demonstrations will not only give the opportunity to witness the breathtaking ability of eagles, falcons, hawks, vultures and owls from all five continents of the world, but also an opportunity to participate in the flying demonstrations, under the guidance of our trained staff. Demonstrations second to none, including lively and informative commentary, are held three times daily, weather permitting. Flying demonstrations times are 11.30 am, 1.30 pm, 3.30 pm.

As this will not cover a full day, another stop (say Thirsk) will be included

YPRES, Belgium- October 27th for 5 days

Day 1 Early morning departure head for the channel and cross to Calais and onwards to Ypres and The Novatel Hotel, located in the heart of the city centre and only a two-minute walk from the famous Menin Gate and Flanders Field Museum. Enjoy a welcome drink then dinner in the restaurant.

Day 2 Morning at leisure in the town of Ypres, Lunch will be served in the hotel and there will be a tasting of local beers in a pub close to the hotel, this afternoon we head to Poperinge for an evening at Wally's Farm where we enjoy a Bar-b-Que and live entertainment

Day 3 Short journey into France and visit Lille with free time to explore the town before returning to our hotel for lunch which is followed by a visit to some of the local shops/pubs for tasting of chocolates and beers. Dinner this evening will be served in a local restaurant.

Day 4 After breakfast we head for the seaside resort of Ostende for free time, returning to our hotel for lunch. In the afternoon we head for the Flanders Field Museum for a fascinating insight into the battles of World War 1 in this area.

Day 5 Homeward journey via a cash and carry outlet.

TALL SHIPS IN LIVERPOOL - 2 days 20th July 2008.

Day 1 A morning departure heading into Liverpool to admire the majestic vessels on the skyline of one of the world's famous waterfronts. See a celebration of Liverpool's 800-year maritime history, as it plays host to the 2008 Tall Ships event. Spend the afternoon soaking up the atmosphere before continuing our journey to the Hotel.(The Park Royal Warrington) 

Day 2 Following breakfast we return to Liverpool for the Tall Ship's parade of Sail as the vessels leave the port and head out in the Irish Sea. Expect stunning views as this spectacular fleet parade north out of the Mersey to start the race to Maloy. 

Included. Coach travel, dinner, bed and breakfast, use of the leisure facilities in the hotel. (Indoor 20 meter swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room)

Harewood House
The ticket will be again available to borrow, free of charge to members. The ticket allows member + 4 people (Mon to Fri) or 1 member + 1 adult and 3 children any time.

Newby Hall
We have a corporate ticket for Newby Hall and gardens available free to members. It admits two adults and up to three children to the House, Gardens, Woodland discovery walk, Children's adventure garden and Sculpture park. There is also a small railway ride available at a cost of £1.50. The ticket also gives you a 10% discount at the gift shop. Opening times - April, May, June and September - Gardens 11am to 5.30, House 12noon to 5.00 Tuesday to Sunday July and August daily.

Book Early! Most of our excursions are booked up within two days of the news letter issue. It is very rare to have seats left a week later, so book by return of post to avoid disappointment.
